A Reflection on Earth Day

By Ricardo Sanchez

Pachamama is the name the Inka and Pre-Inkan cultures of the Andes gave to our natural home.
Pacha means time and space and Mama is the caring female energy. Therefore, we are all her children, and the rest of the living forms are our family. Plants, rivers, lakes, birds are simply part of our natural community. We are all interconnected and our lives (and the life of Pachamama for that matter), depends on healthy and harmonious relationship of each other.

We are nature, weather we realize it or not. We eat, breath, drink, see and interact with nature. It is a communion we take with the 4 elements in the eternal present time. Mother Nature takes care of us and must take care of her. It is simply a reciprocal love that we must return to her. Our ancestors remind us of always to keep in practice the Law of Ayni or the Law of Sacred Reciprocity to regain the natural harmony.

In today’s fast pace society it is easy to get distracted from what really matters. Our distracted minds no only keep us on polluting our environment and poisoning our relationships among humans and the big family. But, when our minds and hearts are polluted how can we really know what pollution is, how can we see the importance of achieving harmony with the creation?

How do we regain that connection?

Natural harmony starts from within. It is simply a realization, an awakening process that takes place inside.

Reconnecting with our natural source of life can happen in many ways. It could happen while we set aside our minds for a moment and contemplate the opening of a flower, quiet conversations with our natural relatives, the trees, lakes and showing respect and gratitude for what we receive. Exchange of sami (refined energy) happens when we consciously interact with nature. When we fill our aura or our bobble with this refined natural energy we are purifying our inner environment which in turn, with our actions purifies our community, our society,

Once we realize deep inside that everything has life, and that everything in nature is as important as we are, that we are part of the world of living energies.
